First the recap, aggravating day yesterday, went 2-2 and lost the juice. Let's get back to winning. For tonight, I'm breaking down this Orioles/Indians game. We have Kevin Millwood going for the Orioles and Jeanmar Gomez going for the Indians. Let's talk about Millwood first. He is a miserable 2-11 on the year with a 5.84 ERA. In his last 3 starts he is 0-2 with an ERA of 5.82 and a WHIP of 1.82. His opponents on base percentage in those starts is a whopping .392 and he has given up 25 hits in only 17 innings pitched. His team is failing miserably to give him any support as they are averaging 2.67 runs in his starts while his opponent is averaging over double that with 5.67 runs per start. Millwood is a horrible road pitcher. He is currently 1-7 on the road this year with an ERA of 6.24. He's basically batting practice on the road I guess, he has given up 87 hits in only 62 innings pitched, 46 runs, and 21 walks. His team is 1-10 this year when he takes the mound on the road and again his team only gives him 2.75 runs of support while opponents are doubling it at 5.17.
Jeanmar Gomez is pitching for the Indians tonight. There isn't a ton of info on him, but what we do have looks impressive. He 2-0 on the year with a low 1.56 ERA. He has pitched 17.1 innings, giving up 14 hits, 3 earned runs, and 9 punch out's. One of those starts came at home where he pitched against the Twins and shut them down. He went 5.1 innings, only giving up 4 hits, 1 earned run, and struck out 3. If he can do that against the hot bats of the Twins, what can he do against the Orioles? Lance Barksdale is the umpire in tonight's game. He is a pretty consistent umpire, home teams are 10-12 on the year and the over/under is 10-11 when he calls the balls and strikes. However, the Home team is 17-6 in Barksdales last 23 games behind home plate vs. Baltimore (73%), and the Home team is 5-2 in Barksdales last 7 games behind home plate vs. Cleveland. With Millwood on the mound, the Orioles are not in a very good situation. As I looked into the match up, I found out the Orioles are 0-4 in Millwoods last 4 starts vs. American League Central. Orioles are 1-10 in Millwoods last 11 road starts, and they are 1-7 in Millwoods last 8 starts with 4 days of rest. Also found out the Orioles seem to have trouble keeping offenses in check after shutting them down the day before as they are 16-43 in their last 59 when their opponent scores 2 runs or less in their previous game (29%). Indians also usually bounce back after a poor offense outing as they are 4-1 in their last 5 after scoring 2 runs or less in their previous game. And last but not least, even after winning the first 2 of the series the Orioles are still a lousy 11-28 in the last 39 meetings in Cleveland (29%). Yes, the Orioles have been playing some hot ball, but tonight is the night their streak ends. Millwood is a bum, and the Indians are going to hit him tonight. Gomez has showed nice form in his lone 2 starts and I think he's going to take care of this lineup. Just worried about how long he will stay in for. Nevertheless, my play is the Indians tonight and I wish all my friends good luck! Fade or play, let's all have a profitable night
