Yankees dominate Josh Beckett, Red Sox AL East hopes on life support.
When the Red Sox gave Josh Beckett and John Lackey a combined $150.5 million they thought they were buying one of the best one-two punches in all of baseball. It hasn’t exactly worked out that way.

The $150.5 million men could only give them 10.2 innings, allowing 19 hits, 5 walks, and 12 earned runs in the two biggest games of their season. It’s easy to blame the fact that the Red Sox are currently sitting in third place in the AL East on injuries, but the Red Sox have pitching problems I’m not sure even a healthy offensive lineup could solve.

Monday’s game has gone from a must-win to a must-must-win. The Red Sox can forget about the Yankees, at least for now. They’re 4 1/2 games behind the free-falling Tampa Bay Rays, who were almost no-hit for the third time this season Sunday. They’re actually tied with the Minnesota Twins for second in the Wild Card standings.
