    Tigers-Fish Blockbuster?
WOW! One helluva' deal, assuming it comes off, and really throws the Tigers right back into the very thick of the AL (they weren't far off anyway).

    Joe Frisaro / MLB.com
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Marlins and Tigers are on the verge of completing a blockbuster deal that will send Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis to Detroit for a package of six players.

A source familiar with the negotiations has told MLB.com that the Tigers are parting with outfielder Cameron Maybin and lefty starter Andrew Miller and four prospects for the final two players from the Marlins' 2003 World Series championship squad.

i absolutely hate this trade. I dont understand why the marlins want to be younger. They are building a great team around Cabrera and Uggla and they're basiclly throwing it all away.

        One word: money.

That's a lot for the Tigers to give up.

Man, it's gotta' suck to be a Marlins fan. All 16 of them are probably pissed.

Loria paid off enough people to get about $200 million from the city, so he immediately repays them by trading the best hurler and best hitter on the team. The son of a gun is still trying to steal $30-$50 million from the state/county (i.e., you the taxpayer). Right now they're projecting about a $420 million stadium with a retractable roof, so plan on cost overuns of at least 40% and probably closer to 60%. Where's that money coming from, Loria and public officials?

But from a baseball standpoint, it's really not that bad a deal for the Marlins as long as I get to know who the four prospects are. Andrew Miller can be as good or better than D-Train (and I love Dontrelle, Motor City will eat him up). And the Maybin kid can be as strong an offensive force as Cabrera eventually. So if they get just two players that are average MLB eventually, the Marlins should enter their new park pretty damn strong.

And it's a great deal for Detroit short-term. Will be interesting to see if Cabrera still plays third in Detroit -- I assume he will. If so, that opens up a possible deal the Tigers can make for Brandon Inge, or just use him as a 'super sub' and play him at third, catcher and maybe first three games a week, off the bench the rest of the time.

It's only a matter of time until the Fish trade Hanley as well.

I forgot about Hanley. Lets just let him return to boston, and in turn we will let u have 4 of the following players Julio Lugo, JD Drew, Eric Gagne (if he accepts arbortration) and Either Masterson or Bowden.

I like this trade the Fish made believe it or not. Both [iSBRFORUM]Maybin[/iSBRFORUM] and [iSBRFORUM]Miller[/iSBRFORUM] are two players that someday could be just as good as Willis and Cabrera

Cabrera will be the best hitter in the game next year with that protection around him and players that are great getting on base (Rentaria, Polanco, Guillen, Maggs, Granderson) and Sheff will probably hit behind him

You could say Masterson AND Bowden and I might not make that deal if I'm the Marlins. Hanley Ramirez is one of the top 3-4 players in the NL as far as I'm concerned.

Solid trade for the Marlins... Cabrera is very good, but Willis is overrated... Maybin will be an extremely good player, Miller could be as good, if not better, than Willis next season and they get 4 other players, plus they lose money by trading Cabrera
