Explain something to me (re: a total)
Cueto faced Martin tonight in Cincy. Two struggling offenses coming in. Total was set at 8.5, despite the lack of production from both teams recently, Cueto's microscopic ERA in his last few starts, and Martin's respectable ERA (under 4 at the start of the game).

So on Tuesday, we have Leake -- who has been shelled in his last three starts and who has obviously hit the rookie wall -- going against Atliano, who has given up 24 runs in his last 30.2 IP.

Temperature's supposed to be in the 80's, hot and humid.

    And the total's 9?!?!?

Take the under. Vegas knows better. I've found when I have a good read on two pitchers and I think the total should be a certain number and it is a whole point higher or lower Vegas knows exactly what they are doing.

That's kind of what I'm wondering.

IMHO, this total should be 9.5 -- if not 10.

Marty Foster behind the dish could have something to do with it. He's got a long history of calling unders plus did you see that phillies/cubs game he called last week? I don't know if I have ever seen a zone that big.

            -------

Jayson Werth and Ben Francisco struck out looking three times each and were the most critical about the work of plate umpire Marty Foster. Werth, 0 for 8 with five strikeouts in the first two games of the series, did not want to talk afterward. Francisco, who had an animated argument with Foster after being called out on an obvious outside pitch in the top of the fifth inning, had plenty to say.
"It was a brutal strike zone, to be honest with you," Francisco said.

That's the point. The over makes sense here, so I'm saying it should be an under play.
