Here’s a look at some notable matchups today in the world of baseball. There are a couple of very interesting matchups with some very close lines. And those that are most interest to me are listed right on top of one another in the SBR sportsbook full board.
Starting in St. Louis where we should have another fantastic matchup, as the Dodgers look to get on the board today after being completely shut down in game one at the hands of Chris Carpenter. The Dodgers send Billingsley to the hill today to face another great Cardinal arm, Jaime Garcia. Last night the sports world was heavy on the Cards and The Carp, but the forum seemed to be split. I expected more from Kershaw last night as well, who took the ball in the bottom of the first, bounced his first three pitches, walked the first two, gave up a pair on a couple of grounders, and the rest was history. Carp bounced back nicely after being outpitched in Denver by Jimenez. Today at -145, the Cards have their rookie stud on the mound who has posted an 8-4 mark with a 2.17 era, a 2/1 bb/k ratio and has only allowed 3 or more earned runs in TWO starts this season. The Cardinals have won every other game Garcia has started since mid may, and if that trend continues, they will be in line for the win tonight. Only one problem, they face the Dodgers, who should be looking to rebound from the complete lack of offense last night. At +125 with Billinsley on the hill, it’s easy to place some money here. Either way really, and that is exactly why I’ll just be spectating with nothing on the line. Should be an absolute great one either way. I am leaning towards the Cards, but will not play this contest tonight.
LAD +125 @ StL -145
The second game of considerable interest tonight is Haren and his D’Backs heading into pitcher-friendly Petco Park to take on the first place Fathers and Jon Garland, who has been absolutely overachieving, benefitting from that expansive park. The under is absolutely the play in this game today. It currently sits at 6.5 which is awfully low, and could be a trap. Ha, as soon as Kirk goes to the league’s most problematic bullpen, all bets are off. Literally. I dont trust the Padre offense and I dont trust the DBack bullpen. So play this under if you want limited juice. This is probably another game I’ll just be spectating, but am very interested in the outcome with or without money on the line. With that being said, Im taking the Padres and the under.
AZ -102 @ SD -118, u6.5 +105.
The play of the day is CC at home vs Shields and the Rays. If you are not bothered by juice, hit the money line. It currently sits at -202. But in his last 8 starts, the Yanks are 8-0 and have beaten the run line in 7 of those contests. This is a home game vs a division rival, in a what’s sure to be a heated division race. At -1.5 you get even money today. Hit this with confidence.
Other Notable contests (AKA. dogs I like):
Phils +112 @ Cubs. again: Last night Grandpa Moyer got rocked in the city that gave him his first start. The phils need to rebound today and hope for a Tommy Hanson loss vs the Crew and their former ace Randy Wolf. (I like the Phils as dogs, but am a homer so wont play this one.)
A’s +130 @ Royals -150: Zack Greinke today at home so you know the Royals will be in it. But he gets a very good A’s squad and a very good A’s pitcher. Gio Gonzalez is the man.
Floyd +120 @ Liriano -140: CWS are on fire. Division game. tuff matchup, but they’ll compete.
King Felix +120 @ Weaver -140: u6.5 is the play, but Hernandez has been superb of late.
