    Mets deal future away for....who?
Reports are Mets just traded Lastings Milledge to the Nationals for Ryan Church and Brian Schneider.

Ryan Church is just not very good, and Brian Schneider is a slightly below average veteran catcher.

Meanwhile, Milledge was a highly touted prospect who is still only 22 years old and has the ceiling to become a superstar. Sure, he has a sketchy background but that doesn't have anything to do with his tools.

IMO, This looks like an absolute steal for the Nationals.

Milledge hasn't been able to behave himself and has worn out his welcome with Mets management. The Mets are also over a barrel somewhat at catcher, losing LoDuca and then having that strange deal with Torrealba fall through.

That is the worst part about it though.

They never LOST LoDuca, they just decided they didn't want to resign him even though he's a Mets fan favorite. They have the money to resign him, New York isn't Washington or Oakland.

So instead of resigning LoDuca who is better than Schneider they deal a player with a very bright future. So in essence they've lost LoDuca and Milledge for a journeyman catcher and a spot outfeilder.

If I was a Mets fan I'd be furious.

It's been my experience that Mets fans are always upset, either because they lost or the Yankees won

Seriously, I hear what you're saying, Rags. A few Mets fans I talk to regularly -- And I don't read the New York Daily Rumor, er, News as much as they do -- have also suggested that LoDuca didn't get along with Minaya, though that might just be a rumor circulated by one of NYC's mediots to sell another column.

Schneider's not that bad of a catcher and has a reputation for working well with pitchers and managers/pitching coaches. The problem with Milledge's 'potential' is he's one gangsta' move away from throwing it all away.

Terrible deal for the mets. Milledge's value really dropped. Looking at this shows how risky prospects are and why sometimes it makes sense to deal them for Vets (santana).
