yeah, and all the media outlets keep saying "one of the most promising hitting prospects in the major leagues", as if to settle down the throngs of mariners fans. "don't worry, mariner nation, they didn't just give cliff lee away..."

Give him some time.
I wish I had a dime for every player I felt this way about their rookie season, only to see them become solid or even great ones 3-4 years down the road.

What good is Cliff Lee when he's gonna leave your team in 3 months and you aren't making the playoffs anyway. Don't judge a rookie based on such a small sample of atbats.

Hopefully he gets glasses so he can see that a pitch is way out of the zone

because cliff lee has proven he is not only good for a 9 inning win on any given start (tonight wasn't good but it was kind of a strange situation), but he's a solid post season starter. you'd think they could have gotten more for him than a guy with promise.
i would imagine if the phillies re-signed him instead of getting roy halladay he's still be wearing red pinstripes. i don't know what went on behind the scenes or if he was demanding too much but it seemed kind of silly for him to not be resigned after what he did for them down the stretch last season.

Smoak will be a good player. Way to jump to conclusions based on a few ABs.
He's certainly not the worst player in MLB.

lol, must be related to the guy since why would you want a strike-out .200 hitter as your clean-up guy

where did I say I wanted him as my clean-up guy? He isn't even batting cleanup for Seattle, one of the worst hitting teams in the majors.
I just said I'd take him over Don Kelly and Manzella right now, and that he'll be a good player in a few years.

How can you say he will be a 'good player'' in a few years when he looks like trash compared to all the other rookies right now

how can you say I want him as my clean-up hitter when I never said that?
how can you say he's the worst player in MLB when there are a bunch hitting even worse than he is?

kevin cash is the worst Major Leaguer. Now there is a guy with a .191 BA lifetime 157K in 483 AB 11HR 49 RBI. He can catch a knuckleball so he is in the Major leagues.
