McCutchen is making his first major league appearance since April 24. Before being demoted to Triple-A, he had been hit hard as a starter, allowing 18 hits, 18 runs (all earned), and five homers in only 11 innings over three starts.
Over his short major league career, McCutchen is 1-3 with a 7.57 ERA in four road starts.
His Triple-A numbers weren’t overly impressive, as he was 4-5 with a 3.86 ERA in 10 Triple-A starts. That’s in stark contrast to last season, when he was 13-6 with a 3.47 ERA in 24 Triple-A starts.

Cahill is 5-0 with a 2.64 ERA in his last seven starts after going 1-2 with a 4.37 ERA in his first four starts this season.

Garcia was 0-2 with an 8.10 ERA in his first two starts. Since then, he’s 8-1 with a 4.36 ERA in his last 11 starts. Take out that start against Florida, in which he allowed seven runs in only 2.1 IP, and he’s got a more respectable 3.58 ERA in the other 10 starts.

The Cubs are not swinging the bat consistently right now. Yesterday was the third time in the last week that the Cubbies have been shut out, and it’s the ninth time this month that they’ve scored two runs or less.
Silva comes in with back-to-back losses after starting the season 8-0, but he hasn’t pitched poorly either loss, allowing only two runs in seven innings in a 2-1 loss to the White Sox two weeks ago and three runs in six innings in a 7-6 loss to the Angels eight days ago.
Silva has now allowed three runs or less in each of his last seven starts, and he’s allowed three runs or less in 11 of his 13 starts this season.
With the exception of the first meeting this season, pitching has dominated in their meetings thus far this season....The last 7 Interleauge Picks road games the Cubs have went under, and neither team hot at the plate, especially against right handers, and both these starters tonight are solid and will go 7 innings each unless the wheels come off..............
