Ok, I am getting tired of the ups and downs with betting baseball this year. I am up a bit overall, but I just said **** it and will go huge on this one and if this play loses I'll be done til football.

Royals ML -140

Royals are a great hitting team, but have left way too many men on base so this offense definitely has the potential to put up runs. They are going against Suppan for the Cards, who hasn't lasted 5 innings all year. Greinke is on the mound for the Royals, who hasn't been as stellar as last year, but is definitely solid. Cardinals offense is questionable and they don't show up many times. Royals are also coming off a days rest, while the Cards are flying back from Canada. Seems like as good of a play I've seen all season.

Seriously, why would you put your last hopes on the Royals?

Maybe Suppan hasn't lasted 5 but he's only given up 3 runs in 8.2ip since joining dave duncan and he's backed by the #3 bullpen in baseball.

Seems like there are much better choices out there than the royals. Not only in this situation but in any situation.

One great year doesn't make greinke an ace. He wasn't an ace before 2009 and he's not an now. (ace on the royals but not an ace in the league)

STL is 40-32 while KC is 30-43.

STL has been a winning franchise for as long as I can remember while the Royals are perennial losers.

I realize none of this really matters when you're talking about one game but laying -140 and taking what is clearly the worst of the 2 teams just doesn't sit right as a "must win" bet.

I'm definitely not saying this is a sure thing, but all signs point to the Royals. They are coming off a days rest with Greinke getting 6 days rest. Greinke has gone 6+ innings all but 3 times this year and has been really solid his past two games. Suppan is the worst pitcher the Cards have and hasn't proven anything this year. The Royals are at home. Royals have the better offense to be honest and they are at home. The Cardinals are inconsistent.

Could the Royals lose? Definitely. But I think they have a lot going for them in this game and are at a good price.

take kc 1st 5 if you gotta do this or the pen will bury you....Soup has gotten a little better each start in stl and will continue to progress, sure kc will get some hits but like you said they leave the runners on and soup is slick enough to pitch out of trouble...true stl bats are inconsistent as shit but they havnt hit in 2 days so i would be leery that they get on track today, Grienke has started to look better and kc could very well be the right side but that pen and the fact stl has the best record in baseball for game 1s of a series (18-6) wouldnt have me going all in....gl with your wager

Hmmm doesn't look like many people agree with me, but I really think the Royals have this. I would never say something is a lock, but all signs point to the Royals for me. The only edge I see the Cardinals having is a better bullpen. Is there a decent chance this loses? Sure, but I think the reward outweighs the risk. If you don't like the Royals here then I would say it is definitely a no play, I can't see a good reason for siding with the Cardinals.
