I guess you can say he has pitched better since coming back. 1-2 4.00 ERA compared to 2-6 6.30 ERA overall. He is still very capable of getting beat tonight and no way would I lay that much juice on this guy. Nationals have great value.

That 6.30 ERA was a result of very poor outings in late-April/early-May before he was sent to AAA for a couple starts

He's since turned it around

Plus, Tigers have dominated interleague play at home (3-0 this year, 7-2 last year, 8-1 in '08)

He has given up 8 runs in 18 innings. His ERA is 4.00 not 3.00 which is just about the league average. Not so terrific.

But seriously, whats going on here ? Lannan is just as poor a starter as Scherzer, if not poorer. Lannan had a nice run from May 18 - Jun 2, going 1-1 and not giving up more then 2 ER, lowering his ERA from 6.51 - 4.79. He promptly capped that nice run by giving up 4 ER in 4.2 innings in his last start, which was against PITTSBURGH. Additionally, hes facing Max Scherzer who, despite a poor year so far, has always been a strikeout pitcher. Tonight, Scherzer will be facing an EXTREMELY light hitting lineup with a few strikeout-prone hitters throughout the order. Additionally, Scherzer needs to take advantage of all weaker matchups in an effort to retain his newly re-acquired roster spot.

One thing I will conceed is that while Scherzer has had some experience vs. multiple current Nats hitters, the hitters appear to have had moderate success against him. Johnny Damon is the only DET starting player that Lannan has faced. Damon is 2-4 lifetime against him with a HR.

In the end, I dont really see this game as a play at all, much less a play with value. If forced, I would prob try to get on the DET runline at +115 and look for the Tigers to chase Lannan early.
