. Unless your a Tiger's fan then get over it, MLB needs to have instant replays and thats final. Other then that this whole situation in my eyes was hilarious.

If you look at a replay from the detroit side of home plate area you see Joyce way up the baseline. On a ground ball way toward second base why did he not move closer to the 1st base bag to be in a better position to make a call. I know he has to be near the baseline to determine a possible fair or foul ball but since that ground ball was nowhere near the line and not hit that hard why didn't Joyce make a move to get into a better position for a bang bang play at first. Had he gotten closer to the bag and at a better angle he may have been able to tell that the pitcher was there in time. Everyone in that ballpark new the magnitude of the situation including the umps. To me thats the real crime here, not being in a better position to make an important call. It's hard to make a close call like that because the ump has to make an instant decision without seeing it from different angles and in slow motion.
Having said all that, I think any ump in a situation like this, a chance for a perfect game, should give any benefit of the doubt to that pitcher. Unless it's absolutely 1000% clear that the runner beat the throw you just got to give that one to the pitcher when history is right there. Just my 2 cents worth.Comment -
