EARLY GAME 1
St Louis Cardinals' breif hitting slump appears to be over. Looking for a third straight victory. The Cards hope for more offensive success while trying to hand Chicago's top pitcher Carlos Silva his first loss, after being held to one run while losing two straight at San Diego, St Louis has scored 15 runs to win it's last two games. St Louis scored 5 times in the first ining and rolled to a 7-1 victory on friday's opener against Chicago. Adam Ottavino is acheduled to make his first MLB start in place of Kyle Lohse. The right-hander was 4-3 with a 4.17 ERA at Triple-A Memphis, But posted a 2.79 ERA wih 22Ks over 29 innings in his last 5 starts.
Carlos Silva, who came over from Seattle, allowed 3 runs in 5 1/3 innings of a 5-4 win at Texas on Sunday to become the first pitcher to begin his Cubs career by winning his first six decisions since Dizzy Dean in 1938. One of the resason for his great success on the hill is the great run support the Cubs have given Silva this year as they average 7.38 rpg when he is pitching. Chicago has won 8 of ilva's 9 starts this year while posting a 3.57 ERA at home. Wrigley Feild has been the feild of choice for Silva posting a flawless 3-0 record and a 5-0 TRBS thus far. He has given up 3 runs or less in 7 of his 9 starts, But he has only pitched past the fifth inning twice in his last 3 starts relying on run support to win his games. He has neve pitched more than 4 innigs against the Cards posting a 1-0 record in his only career apperance. The Cards ar hitting the ball pretty well right now. Look for Silva to get into trouble often and early in this one. The Cards do have an upper hand here as the Cubs have never seen Ottavino before so not much of a pitching report to get. Cards should handle their rivals with ease today
