UNDER 9 (CHI/CLE)
White Sox and Indians square off in the 2nd game of their series. Yesterday the total reached 9 exactly but I expect the UNDER to hit tonight.
First of all, these clubs are two of the worst offensively in the Majors. The Sox did have 14 hits yesterday but only scored 7 runs. This shows their ineptitude when it comes to bringing guys home. Cleveland continued to struggle, mustering only 7 hits.
Looking at the pitchers, we see that Peavy has an ERA of 4.84 in his last 3 starts. This is a bit deceiving as his WHIP has only been .940. We could say that he's been getting a bit unlucky. In Peavy's last 22 innings, he has given up only 12 hits (but 12 ER's). He only walked 3 and struck out 21 in that span for a terrific 7-to-1 KK to BB ratio. I expect his ERA to improve after tonight's game facing an abysmal offensive team like the Indians.
Peavy's opponent is Mitch Talbot who has a 3.88 ERA and 1.3 WHIP on the season. He's been struggling in his last 3 starts with 5.68 ERA and 1.47 WHIP but in his start against the White Sox earlier in the season he picked up a win going 9 innings, giving up 6 hits, and 1 ER. He had 0 BB and 2 K's in the game. I expect a similar performance against the South Siders tonight.
UNDER 9 is the play.
