The reason why George Steinbrenner gave hes son control cause he know they want to bring back Torre, he regret saying that if the Yankees didn't beat the Tride than Torre would not be back with the Yankees, so that will not make the Yankees nor George look stupid...

I tend to agree that Torre will be back, but i don't think the idea of him or the Yankees looking stupid by bringing him back is the reason why George gave up control. He's looked stupid many times in the past and it hasn't fazed him. I think this one is exactly as it seems. Declining health.
