    Umpiring Dreadful
Anyone employed in the profession of umpiring should feel disgrace this evening. Even asa Twins fan, I watched in horror as the 2nd base umpire in this game sent the Royals home in extra innings on a play that was clearly safe. The throw was bobbled and should have gone to first, but it didn't and Podsednik was in safely. The umpire, probably tired and sick of being out in a seemingly endless game in extra innings in the rain, called him out when he was already on his way back onto his feet - safe by miles. The odds of the Royals coming back were slim, but isn't that exactly the point? Let the boys play and don't be the story. This umpire should be humiliated, fined, suspended for taking the game out of the hands of the guys with bats and gloves.

    Pathetic

Calls like that happen all the time in every sport. But I'd have to disagree with you on the whole. Ultimately, baseball umpires are consistently the most accurate officiating crews in all of sports. I've seen crews go the whole year without blowing a call in the infield...and that's saying something with all the snap plays in the mlb.

Agreed. I collected my winnings on the Twins ML and felt dirty about it. That ump at 2nd needs a time out. Certainly a stern talking to. He missed that call by a ton. No slow motion needed to see how one sided and clear that call should have been. His supervisor is getting his ears blown off this morning. The close bang-bang plays deserve giving the umps the benefit of the doubt. They, as a whole, are quite competent in close plays. The replays show that. But this call was a travesty, keeping the Royals alive but on life support. This guy should be on the short list for a two week vacation. Starting today. The Twins should pay for his expenses. Maybe to Cooperstown, New York, to get his head straight.
