MLB Action 4/24 Blue Jays vs Rays
TORONTO BLUE JAYS VS TAMPA BAY RAYS GAME 2

Hi baseball fans! Toronto Blue Jays and Tampa Bay Rays will meet in the second game of their series tonight at Tropicana Field while visitors are leading the series 1-0.

Blue Jays will give the ball to Ricky Romero in this one while Tampa Bay Rays will have Jeff Niemann on the mound. Romero is one of the best pitchers in Blue Jays' rotation, he is impressive so far this season with 1.57 ERA, 0.74 WHIP. However, Ricky Romero's career stats are a little bit higher with 1.43 WHIP and 3.99 ERA. So don't expect Romero to complete season with an Earned Run Average below 2.

Romero Played 3 games so far this season. He pitched 7 innings versus Rangers on the road; 5 hits, 1 run, 2 balls and 4 strikeouts. Blue Jays won 3-1.

5 days later, on 4/13, he pitched 8 innings and give only 2 runs. Romero's performance was amazing with 12 strikeouts and only 2 balls. Blue Jays were victorious 4-2.

In his third appearence, he faced Angels of Anaheim. Even he pitched 8 innings and give only 1 run, Blue Jays lost 1-3.

Romero is ranked 8th in American League in SO with 22, ranked 1st in American League in WHIP with 0.74 and Ranked 6th in American League in ERA with 1.57.

Romero went 1-1 with a 2.57 ERA against Tampa Bay last season.

But these numbers should change somehow..

Enough with Romero, let's talk about Niemann!

Jeff Nieman has impressive numbers with 2.93 ERA and only 1.11 WHIP so far this season. Niemann's career numbers are 1.35 WHIP and 3.95 ERA.

Jeff Nieman was 2-1 with a 4.87 ERA against the Blue Jays in 2009.

Rays are hot lately but they lost 6-5 at home versus Blue Jays last night. Rays were favored -230 but it wasn't a big surprise. As I mentioned last night, Rays were on the road for 7 days. In fact, They played 10 games (inc White Sox game Thursday) on the road but they had a rest on 4/15 after Baltimore road trip. So they were on the road (consecutively) since 4/16. Chicago White Sox game started at 8:10 PM. They were in airport through midnight. It's approximately 3 hours from Chicago to Florida as I know (correct me please if I'm wrong) so they were at home through 4-5 AM. This homebound ward situation effected Rays' performance of course..

This is Rays' second home game after loooong road trip so homebound ward is over. Rays are hot lately, 8-2 in last 10. In addition, they're 9-3 in night games and 9-1 in last 10 games on grass. Rays are 1st in American League East with 12-5. On the other side, Toronto Blue jays are 10-7 so far this season, ranked 3rd in AL East. Blue Jays are 7-3 in night games, 5-1 in grass and 5-5 in Last 10 games played.

Rays are the highest scoring team in the league at 5.8 runs per game. In addition, Tampa Bay Rays have allowed the third fewest runs in the league at 3.5 runs per game.

Toronto Blue Jays are 2-7 SU in last 9 games against Rays. Tampa Bay is 5-1 SU in last 6 games when playing at home against Toronto. I'm expecting Tampa Bay Rays to win tonight.

Pick Tampa Bay Rays ML -137 and enjoy the game, GL!

    Pick: Tampa Bay ML -137

Romero has been pitching lights out this season....Blue Jays have the better pitcher in this match up but of course the Rays have the better line up.....i think Jays win but this game is a no play for me as of now

This is excellent analysis! For me the pitching match-up is so close that this play is hard for me to justify RvsR.

Go TB! We know over the 162 you will make a lot of $!

              Enjoy the game.

Baseball teams usually (not always) don't play %100 in first home game (with no rest) after a looooong road trip (6 days or more). This is called homebound ward or homeward bound what the hell it is

Nice writeup, Sawyer. I have to go the other way though. Romero has the stuff to shut down this lineup and it's not like the Jays lineup is anemic. BOL to you though!
