I'm guessing here, but is it just a tradition?

Wrigley Field was a hold-out against night games, not installing lights until 1988 after baseball officials refused to allow the Cubs to play any post-season games without lights. Night games are still limited in number by agreement with the city council. Capacity is set at 44,250.

They'd prefer to play more night games but due to restrictions in the neighborhood the stadium is situated in they are only allow a set number of home night games per year.

yeah the people that live around Wrigley fukin hate night games...no parking when the come home from work being the BIGGEST aggravation, but the lights, noise, and drunking people walking underneath your apt bedroom window till 3 am....... those things suck too

Tradition...City limits the amount of night games they can play due to the park being in the middle of an active neighborhood with VERY little parking. Cubs still manage to push for more night games every year, up from like 10 at the start to more than 20 now i think.

fuk that, baseball was meant to be played during the day

Many of us work for a living, not on welfare.

Day games are the most fun to go to. It just feels wrong getting hammered while everyone else is at work.

1984 Season pissed me off. MLB screwed the Cubs out of home field because of no lights and lost the NL Championship to the Padres 3 games to 2.....after the Cubs won the 1st two at home.

                                  I will never forget that.

Like I'm a Cub fan. I didn't know if it was just b/c of tradition, or what. Okay? It wasn't a bad question.

Going to day baseball games is the best. I'll second this notion.

this is actually a court case about this.

                                          Brief Fact Summary

The plaintiff was a shareholder in The Chicago National League Ball Club, Inc., a Delaware corporation. He brought a derivative suit against the company's directors and majority shareholder and President, Phillip K. Wrigley, charging that Wrigley did not exercise reasonable care in his failure to schedule night games, which, according to the plaintiff, resulted in the company suffering economic losses. The plaintiffs suit was dismissed for failure to state a cause of action and he appealed.
                                          Rule of Law and Holding

"Courts will not step in and interfere with honest business judgment of the directors unless there is a showing of fraud, illegality or conflict of interest."
