The sleeping giant has finally been woken up. There 1.5 games back in the wild card, and could be less after tonight.

I wouldn't get too excited about sweeping the Royals at home.

Fortunately for the Yankees, Cleveland and Detroit have both gone in the sh*tter. It's only a matter of when, not if, the Yanks overtake them for the wild card.

I'm a Yanks fan since birth. I know it's a long shot but I would love for the Sox to stumble a bit and the race for the AL east to get tighter. It makes for awesome baseball, especially in New England.

Are they not facing under .500 teams since the ASB? They should be winning, so I wouldn't get to excited about it.

The Yankees have done a great job climbing back into the playoff race, after a horrible start to the season. This team is actually showing some character. Hopefully Clemens will get his sh*t together soon.

Yankees are strong. The bats are heating up. Should be a great back half to the season.

I wish they would had made a move before the trade deadline for a 1st baseman. There's not a lot of pop coming from that postion.

Dan,
I'm not so sure that it's they're finally playing up to their potential as it is they're beating the daylights out of some really bad teams (which, of course, good teams are supposed to do).
We'll see where the Yankees are when the competition gets a little stiffer as it does here over the next couple of weeks.
Just as it was wrong to bury them earlier in the year... It's probably equally wrong to say they've got everything fixed and it's smooth sailing from here to the wild card.
As the late great Howard Cosell would say..."That's why they play the games."

I'm not a huge Yankees fan, but I love watching epic choke jobs and this would be one for the ages by the Red Sox. The real test comes in the next couple weeks before they play in the Bronx in late August. Sox schedule favors them at home while Yanks play CLE, DET and LAA on the road. If they're still within 5-6 games or close going into that series ... the BoSox better be worried.
