#878Good morning Van G,Originally posted by Van GTodaysAction....I have a question for you:
I have a $500 bankroll..how many dollars should 1 unit be worth for my bankroll?
Also, here are some picks for tomorrow from Dexter's postings:
Monday 4/5:
(1x) rockies +110 - jiminez has 7ip and 0 er in his only career start at milw (col 1-0). gallardo has 5ip and 2 er in 1 career home start vs the rockies (hou 0-1). like the sharp opening move for colorado.
(1x) giants -130 - lincecum has given up 1er in 11inn pitcher at hou. have to take advantage of lincecum at a decent price.
(1x) mariners -130 - fading sheets here who hasnt pitched since 9/2008 vs one of the best in the game (king felix) at a decent price.
I'll answer your question this way, I don't tell people how much a unit would be since that is up to each person. If this comes out wrong, I apologize up front, but $500 is a small roll in the big picture but it can work with and for you if you're careful. A couple of perfect examples come from last year's thread, in the first half of the season I made 747 posted wagers, in the second half of the season there were 471 posted wagers for a total of 1,218 posted wagers - and people are fully aware I don't post everything which is the case for this season as well. So, if you're going to tail everything, I guess the lower you can make your unit, the better you'll be because with numbers like the above, going to large to quick and if a bad streak starts, it could be deadly.
Also, I don't know if Dexter commented on his plays being posted in here, but in the future please don't bring other people's selections in here. Posters know that if they want them posted in here, all they have to do is do it themself. I appreciate you bringing them over for everyone to read but would rather read your insights - I can go read his and others threads.
Originally posted by oda11I would say 1% Van G.Originally posted by Mybolognedepending on your bank roll it's usually 2-3%Originally posted by Van Goda, thanks for the advice....1% seems very small, but I guess I need to be into the longevity side of things to win in this game
$5 per unit for a $500 bankroll will take some getting used to since in baskets I will play up to 20% of my bankroll on a strong playGood information people. All I'll add is that go smaller than you think you can afford for the ENTIRE season to ensure you'll make it to October.Originally posted by Van Gbologne....thanks for the advice...2-3% sounds reasonable....i was actually thinking before I asked this question that for my $500 bankroll that a 1 unit play should be $10....that's a 2% play off of my bankroll

#887WelcomeOriginally posted by woodman663Hi all, and especially TA.
I was having a pretty decent rookie betting season (right here in TA's thread) before I had to pull out due to other obligations.
Now I'm back and hopefully stronger.
I will be posting my picks here with European style odds (I'm from the Netherlands) and I'll give an explanation with them.
DET @ 1,95, 1 unit
KC's position players are awful, just downright awful (except DeJesus and Butler, but they're no stars either). Guillen and Betancourt are prime examples of their awfulness, and today they'll even start Bloomquist at third. Hmmm love me some Royals fading at positive odds as Verlander isn't that far away from Greinke.
Might add more after I do some more research on other teams.
back woodman663! Nice to see you returning for the second go around.
Talk to me about SD.Originally posted by therber2St. Louis Cardinals -144 (1 unit)
Colorado Rockies +101 (1 unit)
Los Angeles Dodgers -130 (1 unit)
Detroit Tigers -105 (1 unit)
San Diego Padres +170 (1 unit)
Los Angeles Angels -130 (1 unit)
with the other four.

#891As promised I'll add some:DET @ 1,95, 1 unit

SF @ 1,77, 1 unit
Lincecum is godlike. His offense stinks but then again, the Astros stink just as much (though perhaps more in the defensive spectrum of things). Anyway, I shouldn't have to explain Lincecum, he'll let his own pitches do that. Little bit of risk of course because the value here is on the pitcher and he might still be rusty.
NYM/FLA over 7 @ 1,75, 1 unit
These aren't lousy offenses and Santana is coming back from injury. Bullpens aren't great either.
So the final plays, all for one unit, are: DET ML, SF ML and NYM/FLA over 7 with all of those also bet on by TA, making me more confident in them.

with the other four.
Can't take any team big this early in the season; don't think the DBacks have a -200 edge in this case.
I will be running the innings with a run scored/total innings played roster by the way. From my experience it works best with totals. For example two teams matched up in with very low InnsWRS/TotInnings tend to go for the under. Pretty basic, but effective. **Not effective though until about a month or so in.Comment -

Haha no need to age yourself here! Im 22 and know the reference so you could be 22-40 for all I know! Let's get them today boys.... dont delay the philly game too much guys need Halladay to be clutch here.
Btw a quick note on Marlins/Phillies... Santana not being completely healthy is the reason i took the fish here. Usually, the marlins get raped by Santana but.... I like Johnson here right after getting his big contract in the offseason AND I am not impressed by the Mets bullpen at all.... hopefully Santana is out after 5
