Mark Cuban looking to buy the Cubs
This is what Cubs fans and the city of Chicago need really. This guy does indeed knows how to turn around a miserable franchise, and unlike the cooperate ownership in there now he actually actually cares about the product he puts out there to play.

DALLAS (Ticker) -- Mark Cuban may be annoying Major League Baseball commissioner Bud Selig in the future if he gets his way.

According to a report on the Dallas Morning News' web site early Friday morning, Cuban has applied to buy the Chicago Cubs from the Tribune Company.

The flamboyant owner of the NBA's Dallas Mavericks, Cuban has often clashed with commissioner David Stern about the league's officiating. He was fined a league-record $500,000 for his remarks after a regular-season loss to the San Antonio Spurs in 2002.

The list of suitors to purchase the Cubs is a long one, with at least six other individuals or groups in the running to buy the team and Wrigley Field, which the Tribune Company announced were for sale in April.

According to the report, Cuban would not elaborate on what effect the purchase of the Cubs would have on his ownership of the Mavericks.

"I submitted the application and have no comment on the rest," Cuban wrote in an e-mail response to a question about his potential purchase.

Along with NFL Hall of Famer Dan Marino, Cuban also was part of a group that unsuccessfully attempted to buy the NHL's Pittsburgh Penguins in 2006.

Bidding for the Cubs is expected to reach $1 billion dollars, according to an investment banker surveyed by the Chicago Tribune.
