Night after night the books don't put up a line for the Cubs, even though the play the next day game. Any idea why?

100% due to wind. Wrigley is like two different stadiums when wind is blowing in or out.

That is why you see a lot of totals there that are either 7.5 or less OR 10.5 or more, once total opens generally at around 10 AM ET. By the way I assumed you were talking stictly totals and run lines? Straight moneylines are up overnight same time as other lines.

yeah it's due to the wind.....the linesmaker wants to make sure they have the most accurate weather report before setting a price on the total.

Any other stadiums where the wind has a similar effect on totals?
I guess not as strong as Wrigley, but anything approaching it.

Here are some of my personal impressions of three parks that have a notable wind factor. Just my opinion, obviously.

Jacobs Field: In my opinion, probably the field second most affected by wind, after Wrigley. This park often has moderate to strong winds blowing in or out, and it is often a good under park when the wind is coming in, and a good over park when blowing out.

SF: Another park that tends to have strong winds, varying in direction. It's generally a pitcher's park, but you will not infrequently see a strong wind blowing out to dead center, which can turn the park much more favorable to hitters.

Florida: Very strange wind behavior at this park. It is fairly spacious, and in general I would consider it to be somewhat forgiving for pitchers. But it often sees a lot of overs, especially early in the year. And very recently, there has been a strong trend of high-ish scoring here, usually with strong winds reported blowing in.

                Thanks Ganch.

All this makes me wonder why the Cubs play so many day games. As far as I know, winds tend to die down at night. Seems a strange combination, stadium with strongest wind factor and team with most (?) day games.

                  Dark Horse,

Rememer that Wrigley Field didn't even put in lights until like 20 years ago. So they played nothing but day games there until 1988 (?) or so. So it is more of a tradition thing, as Wrigley and day baseball have gone hand in hand for so many decades.

Also, I don't know if they changed the rules, but right after they installed the lights, they put in a clause that they can NOT play night games on Fridays and Saturdays. No doubt Sunday would have been included too if not for ESPN.

LT, while we're on the subject, can you put up a totals line for the Cubs game? Starts in about half hour.

Edit - just realized it's Ganch who puts up the lines. lol

                        Sorry DH,

Not using the Cubs Total in contest today. Have a hard time getting a hold of Ganch and it wouldn't be fair to put it up this close to gametime anyway.

I remember the good ole days when Pinnacle would post overnight totals on them, and we would just hammer the hell out of them every time.

Yeah, Pinny would always put up an 8 overnight with carzy juice, like Over 8 -148 or Over 8 +157.
