#8I would actually bet that the vast majority of the posters on here don't chase, and if they do, certainly not to the extent that after a loss they risk their entire bankroll on a late game.Originally posted by buztahDon't hate me for posting what most of us do. #9I'm not saying I'm not degenerate, but I don't chase. The people on this board who do this to make money know chasing is a bad idea, and never do it (although of course the irrational temptation is always there). Chasing is fine if you're just having fun with money you don't care about losing, but you should be aware of the mathematical implications of doing it, just so you don't wind up doing things you wouldn't have done if you had been aware of what you were doing.Originally posted by buztahDon't hate me for posting what most of us do. Again, I'm not saying you shouldn't chase, I'm just reminding everyone that you shouldn't chase if profitability is your primary concern. The temptation is always there, there's no harm in repeating the truisms of gambling.Comment -

Your judgement will start to get cloudy put this day behind you tomorrow is a new day and try to make some positive cash tomorrow then forget about tomorrow and do the same the following. Chip away the loss a little at a time. I have been hammered before it is all how you let it affect you. Good luck down the line with later plays.Comment -

#15The one thing that irritates me about this forum is that problem gamblers are taken in as part of the family. These type of gamblers are on the total opposite end of the spectrum as pros and aspiring pros, who are highly disciplined and organized.
If this guy is coming from where I think he's coming from, the worst thing you can do is sweet talk him into believing all is cool. If he's a problem gambler, and betting 10K at a time, he needs to walk away.
By allowing problem gamblers to post here, SBR is undermining the potential of this forum to be sharp, while at the same time giving such people the wrong type of 'support group', and, by extending the hand of friendship, SBR also plays a role in attracting more of them. Which is exactly the type of influence that bettors in the middle - i.e. those who are neither problem gamblers nor pros-, don't need. Mix with pros if you want to be a pro. Mix with addicts and losers if you want to be an addict or loser.
Just my two cents.Comment -

#21I don't know what he plays a game but I am sure this isn't the first time he played 10k on a game.
I know some people who play 5k a game every day all day all straight bets from NFL NHL NBA to MLB.
I don't think the price makes a person a problem gambler but chasing games does. All I was saying was if he built a nice bank and put a dent in it on the padres he can build it again a little at a time.Comment -

AC, it wasn't the 10K. It was the 'oops' and reference to JJ.

#27Wow, looks like I started a pissing contest. I always get a kick out of gamblers. Everyone claims to be a winner but I bet there isn't a single player here who is actually up, or in the black, overall. I bet the sound money managment principle of saving money instead of wagering it would have helped us all had we done that from the beginning of our gambling adventures. I love the sanctimonious attitudes. Side splitting, gut busting stuff. No wonder JJ made that video about ****ing degenerate gamblers. We all are. If you're here every day wagering and getting off to line movements then YOU are a ****ing degenerate ****ing gambler. Some of us bet bigger than others and some don't. GL to you all though -- unless you're on the othtr side of the play against me. LOL! Peace.Comment -

#32From the home page:
SBR, I don't think you would be baby-sitting the forum if you kicked self-proclaimed problem gamblers off who don't understand this clear warning. You can't possibly expect serious sports bettors and obvious losers to hang out at the same place. I know for a fact that a respected poster like Jay Edgar, who posted daily NBA lines, is taking a break because there is too much of a JJ vibe here. I have nothing against the man, but what does it tell you if someone like buztah takes JJ's philosophy as gospel? Please! #33Good word use.Originally posted by buztahbut why the sanctimonious attitude?
Why not? The pleasure I derive from both receiving and giving arse smoke-blowing isn't connected to my ability to pick winners. I enjoy posting and reading posts, both the smart ones and the stupid ones, the jokey ones and the serious ones.Originally posted by buztahIf you or I were any good at this we wouldn't be blowing smoke up each others arses on some website.
Nowadays it only takes a few minutes in a spreadsheet to count the cash. What else are we going to do with our time? I mean, I write songs here and there. I read about politics and global warming on the net, or maybe I'll go try to find a good conspiracy theory website. But I like posting and reading, it doesn't mean I can't pick winners. Tonight I'll try to pull a female, so I won't be involved in much smoke-blowing. But most nights I'm free.Originally posted by buztahWe'd be on a yacht chilling, counting our cash instead.
I would say the smoke-blowing on display on this forum probably has more to do with a collective inability to pull females than to pick winners.Comment
