Lay the price on Brett Tomko and Los Angeles tonight when the Dodgers host Rodrigo Lopez and the Colorado Rockies in Game 2 of their series.

The Rockies grabbed game one of this series on Monday in large part due to Dodgers starter Jason Schmidt leaving the game early with a hamstring injury.

Los Angeles has won 15 of the last 20 meetings in this series and has not lost back-to-back games to the Rockies since September 2005. The Dodgers had the second-best home record in the National League in 2006 while the Rockies had the fourth-worst record on the road. Back-to-back home defeats were rare for Los Angeles last season as it happened just 10 times.

Rodrigo Lopez makes his second start for the Rockies after baffling Arizona in his Colorado debut. It was arguably one of his best starts over the last couple seasons as he not only allowed just one earned run but didn’t walk anyone as control has been a big issue. However, this is his first road start of the season and the road has not been kind. He went 3-10 with a 6.40 ERA and 1.61 WHIP in 13 road starts in 2006 after posting a 5.53 ERA on the road in 2005. Lopez allowed three runs in just three innings in his lone career start in Los Angeles.

The Dodgers counter with Brett Tomko who worked hard in the offseason and was able to snag the fifth spot in the rotation. This is his 2007 debut and he will be limited to five innings of work but that isn’t an issue as the Dodgers have had success from the bullpen thus far. Tomko was awesome at home last year, posting a 2.36 ERA at Dodger Stadium compared to an ERA 6.86 in his eight road starts. He was a strong starter as well as he won five of his first six decisions last season.

Colorado’s pitching has been phenomenal thus far but it has been the rotation and not the bullpen which will come into play on Tuesday. Play against all National League teams with a money line of +120 or more that are allowing 3.8 or less runs per game on the season, after allowing three runs or less in two straight games. This situation is 49-22 against the money line (69 percent) over the last five seasons with the average run differential being +1.1 rpg.

The Dodgers rebound with the win on Tuesday. Play Los Angeles for one unit.

    Play: Dodgers -130

I also disagree Matt. I, like Dan, feel the play is the Rockies here.
