Why the **** is Lackey still pitching?

What runs through manager's heads when they make a move like this? They are going to have to bring in a reliever now anyway who'll probably have a big mess to clean up and will have to pitch under stress instead of a nice clean slate.

I really want to know when was the last time a match-fix was prosecuted or even alleged in the media ?
Or is it done by the big boys in a very very discreet manner, once in a blue moon that no one would suspect it ?
