Money, money, money. The Los Angeles Angels have been a bettor's best friend this year three different ways. In addition to the moneyline profit of nearly 25 units, the Halos have also been the top team for Over backers at 71-45-5 and are sporting more than 16 units in the black on runlines. Vladimir Guerrero & Co. are still chasing the Yankees for the best record in the AL as they open a three-game set at home against the Tigers.

The Angels (74-47, +24.85 units) are 71-45-5 O/U this year, making them the most dependable play on the over in MLB. Los Angeles is first in runs per game (5.73), team batting average (.289), and is second in team OPS (.803) and stolen bases (123). The Halos are even a big moneymaker on the runline (69-52, +16.06 units).
Thing is, the Angels have shown signs of slowing down heading into their three-game series this week with the Detroit Tigers (65-57, -0.86 units). You know the value is with the Tigers beginning on Monday night, so now’s the time to steal some paydays betting against the Halos.

I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Los Angeles swept the series, but the reality is you’re not going to make much cash siding with the chalk. If anything, consider taking Detroit on the runline, even if there are two good spots to grab the dogged Tigers to win outright in the three-gamer.
Monday night’s opener (10:05 PM ET) is an opportune time to go with Detroit, because ace Justin Verlander (13-7, 3.29 ERA) is taking the hill for Jim Leyland. Verlander tossed eight scoreless innings against L.A. back on June 5, getting a no-decision in the Tigers’ 2-1 loss against the Angels.
Mike Scioscia counters with Jered Weaver (13-4, 3.83 ERA), who’s been Los Angeles’ best starter this season. Weaver was solid in the Angels’ (-106) 4-3 victory over the Tigers on April 21, allowing three runs over seven innings in a no-decision. Problem is, that was Weaver’s best career start against Detroit: He’s got a 7.08 ERA in four lifetime outings against the Tigers.
Oddsmakers opened Weaver and the Angels as -145 moneyline favorites for Monday night’s Game 1, with the total listed at 8.5 runs. The Tigers were originally priced as +125 underdogs, but the line has shifted across the board since it was released early on Sunday. Los Angeles is now available between -122 and -140, while Detroit is set between +112 and +120 on the moneyline depending on the venue.
You should probably stick with the Halos for Tuesday night’s Game 2 (10:05 PM ET), if only because Jarrod Washburn (8-7, 3.18 ERA) is starting for the Tigers. Detroit is 3-0 in Washburn’s last three outings, but he’s got a 4.95 ERA over that span. I’d say the bubble’s about to burst on the lefthander, who’s given up 17 earned runs in only 25 1-3 innings since coming over to Detroit from the Seattle Mariners.
John Lackey (8-6, 4.00 ERA) gets the call for L.A., and he appears to be coming around after a very slow start. The big righthander did surrender six runs over 5 1-3 innings in the Angels’ 11-3 defeat at Cleveland last Thursday, but he’s 6-0 with a 3.31 ERA in six career starts against the Tigers.
Detroit looks like the sharp play for Wednesday afternoon’s series finale (3:35 PM ET), with Edwin Jackson (10-5, 2.86 ERA) matching up with Joe Saunders (9-7, 5.33 ERA). One of the best kept secrets in the American League, Jackson has allowed only four earned runs in 14 innings of work in two starts against Los Angeles this season. That includes a complete-game performance in the Tigers’ (-149) 2-1 win against the Angels on June 6.
Saunders makes his return to the rubber on Wednesday after missing the bulk of August with shoulder tightness. 1-1 with a 9.24 ERA in his three outings before going on the 15-day disabled list, Saunders has a 7.51 ERA since the beginning of May.
Los Angeles comes into the series losers of three of its last four ballgames, including two of three at Toronto over the weekend. Detroit also dropped two of three in its weekend series at Oakland, but has been profitable for under bettors lately, going 2-7-1 O/U over its last 10 contests.
