Kazmir has history of success vs. Yankees
Today's start for Scott Kazmir of the Tampa Bay Rays could be his most important one all season. Kazmir missed over a month with a leg injury earlier this year and he hasn't won a game since May 9. After losing the opener of a four-game series against the red-hot New York Yankees, the Rays will need Kazmir to play the role of stopper tonight in St. Petersburg. If history is any indication, he should be up to the challenge. Kazmir just may be the best pitcher in baseball when facing Yankees stars Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter. Those two are hitting a combined .115 in their careers against the Rays lefty. Kazmir has also handled several other Yankees starters with ease. Robinson Cano (.150), Nick Swisher (.167), Hideki Matsui (.174) and Johnny Damon (.182) are sub-.200 hitters against him.
In addition, Kazmir's name has also been mentioned lately in a number of trade rumors, so how well he does tonight could affect his future in yet another way.
