SBR All-Star Boxscore Contest
Howdy how there SBR. Going to shift gears a little for our usual Tuesday contest since there's but one MLB game on the board tonight. The prize remains the same: A bag of SBR gear for the winner. But the contest will be far different than the Bet the Board Tuesday Totals we've gotten used to.
Below are nine different stats that one can find in your average MLB boxscore. Why nine, you ask? Well, nine for the same number of innings your usual ballgame lasts. Plus we have the 10th-inning tiebreaker. Your task is to come as close as possible to the stats we will find in Wednesday morning's boxscore.
If you nail a category on the nose, you get a score of zero (0). Low score wins this one.
Example: You predict three home runs are hit in the All-Star Game, and three are indeed hit. You score zero for that statistical category. If two or four are hit, you score -1; if one or five are hit, you score -2, etc. Not sure if the correct term would be reverse action points, but that's the term I'm running with.
Contest Rules:
1) All predictions must be made at the same time and in the same post. Any editing of a post disqualifies your entry. All Picks must be submitted no later than 6:00 p.m. (ET), July 14, 2009. No exceptions.
2) Regardless of how many innings the game lasts, all statistical predictions have action. All predictions are made for the two teams (AL and NL) combined.
3) The first nine stat categories -- Runs, Hits, Home Runs, Stolen Bases, Errors, Strikeouts, Walks, Double Plays, Left On Base -- will decide the winner. In case of a tie, the 10th inning tiebreaker (Game MVP) will decide it. If contestants are still tied after that, we'll come up with something to make everyone happy.
4) One entry per household/IP address.
5) We will use the boxscore for the game at ESPN.com as of 9:00 a.m. (ET) Wednesday morning (July 15, 2009) for our official results.
Enter your predictions for the following statistical categories, combined AL and NL totals in each category:
