Guess I'm the only person who thinks Smoltz need to stop stealing money, and retire.
One of those ESPN idiots gave the line that "Smoltz is one of the great competitors left in the MLB." Once I heard that I knew he was done with that hollow statement.

First start of the season, you expect him to be in top form fresh out of the gate?
Worst lineup in the MLB based on what? 9 teams that have scored less runs, 9 teams that have hit less HRs, 13 teams with a worse team batting average... "Slightly below average", sure. Worst lineup in the MLB, not even close.
Sorry that your wager lost, I don't blame you for taking a shot at that price on Boston's bats and bullpen. But this thread is a little over the top.
He was dominant in 2007, and in the 28 innings he pitched in 2008, he had a 2.57 ERA, a 1.11 WHIP, and 36 Ks. I'd give him more than one start.

My bets range form $50- $100, with my most confident plays garnering the most money. Past threads for proof....http://forum.sbrforum.com/baseball-h...cws-bonus.html

I actually bet the NATS, bro. I think he's done and I wanted to know who felt the same. With the lack of responses I guess I'm a man on an island.
I dont make threads b/c I lost a bet. I've lost too many to waste time like that.

LAD -1.5 +110
BOS -113
FLA -120
Thank goodness for fla, but I bet 3x bet on the Red Sox. I didn't believe in Smoltz, but I didn't believe in the nats worse. Oh well tomorrow can't come fast enough.

Congrats on the Nats... I had them circled today but was scared at the low price.
You definitely picked a great spot.
I think you are just being unreasonable saying the guy sucks because of one bad start coming off of a long haitus.
Did you start a thread about how much John Lackey sucked when he came off the DL cold?

I understand you're reasoning VegasDave. I really just thought it would be hilarious for everyone to belittle Somltz for a nite. But its seems like he has a following, that is going to stick with him through the rough times.

How can anyone take seriously a thread that includes the words "Smoltz sucks"? He's 40 years old, has pitched tons of innings, and of course he's not what he once was.
But what he IS is one of the greatest competitors in the history of baseball - a LOCK first ballot HOFer. A guy who was one of the greatest starters in the game but gave up a chance at 300 wins because his team needed a closer, so he became one of the greatest relievers in the game. And then went back and became an ace starter again when his team needed him to do so.
Sure, he's had one bad start. But take my advice pal, don't ever, EVER count out John Smoltz.

... The Braves announced Monday that John Smoltz's number (29) will be retired during a June ceremony. He'll also be inducted into the Braves Hall of Fame. Smoltz retired as the only pitcher with 200 wins and 150 saves.
