How is an MLB line made?
Does anyone know the process in making an MLB line?

What makes a team -140 instead of -135 or -145? How does a line maker start to make odds on an MLB matchup?

what they do is they have a basic computer system that using some excel and fancy math gives them win probability and once they have win probability they set the line at a reduced bet amount and they post that line and they adjust it as money starts coming in on it.
-135 means a team has a 57% chance of winning so if there model tells them the team will win 57 out of 100 they set the opening line at -135. I hope that helps!

Don't forget about public perception. That certainly gets factored into the line.
