    MLB pinch hitters
Interesting stat quoted by Jim Deshaies in the Astros game a little earlier regarding pinch-hitters in the majors this year. Coming into action today, NL pinchers were hitting just .217 with AL sub batters a paltry .159.

Far more opportunites for there to be a pinch-hitter in the NL without the weenie DH rule like the AL, so the averages alone don't really mean much without known all of the stats behind them. But still, in a game where the law of averages eventually even out, got to think we will see those averages will be on their way up from this point on.

By the way, I'm watching the Astros post-game show and I'm pretty sure if given the opportunity, I'd do Alyson Footer. That is all, we now return you to your regularly scheduled happy hour

Those low stats would have been helped considerably by Edgar Gonzalez.

Mike, sorry but I've already forgotten about the pinch-hitter stats, mind is on Alyson Footer.

Lenny Harris is/was the best pinch hitter of all time. He was clutch.

I don't know, depending on the situation in the game I would take Gates Brown, Cliff Johnson or Manny Mota over Lenny Harris.

Those numbers are truly pathetic, particularly this far into the season. I wasn't aware of that. The AL number is disgraceful.

Sometimes - often - I think managers are over-thinking in putting in a PH. Like they think they have to have a lefty-righty match-up when the guy already in the line-up would do a better job even though it may be righty-righty.

I don't know, but those numbers are screaming that pinch hitters are not a profitable move in the big picture.
