I am like a hovercraft, not getting down too much but unable to get over the hump, hovering in the even to -5 range

Simple, Darvish is one of my top rated pitchers in the American League nearly 30% above average. This is no knock on Bauer as he is actually a prime candidate for GOOD regression given he rates slightly above average despite an ERA in the 5.00s (vs. a 3.64 xFIP), but vs. Darvish I get Texas 54% (-117).

Lt, do you look at contact statistics for pitchers?

If I look at Darvish, he tends to give up line drives at a very high rate. Line drives turn into hits and double frequently. Also, higher than average hard hit balls.

Not specifically no, but high strikeout rates cover up a lot of faults and xFIP normalizes flyball rate to expected home runs allowed. So as long as xFIP is down, I can live with the line drives that stay in the park.

You can't judge by one game and Darvish wasn't even that bad. It's just that Bauer was better, which was certainly a possibility based on what I said about his good regression. (roughly a 46% possibility ).

And overall night wasn't a loss at 4-4, +0.34. NEXT!
