From a Glog in the Minnesota-Baltimore game:
The Orioles won fair and square if a game is 5 innings long. There are 2 problems. First, the game should never have started. Second, after the long rain delay, it's pretty clear the umpires knew they had a window of opportunity just long enough to complete 1-2 innings to make the game official. They knew there was no chance of completing 9 innings.
So... Doesn't Baltimore have a guy dedicated to studying weather reports, and projecting how long the game will last? Apparently not! If you know you have 20 minutes to go, why not bring in your closer? It didn't matter in this game - Bass "closed" it out, but Baltimore's closer, Sherrill was certainly ready - he didn't pitch Tuesday night.
Baltimore is #23 with salaries in mlb - just $67m. Can't they pay a college student 30k to look at weather.com?
