beating the Yanks was a critical win for White Sox

1) first they avenge a big loss (last night) Chris Sale game you expect to win

and

2) winning tonight and beating the Yanks at the Stadium moves them up
to 73-81 and just 16.5 games out..

falling to 17.5 back at this point of the season would be a disaster, and they really
needed this game going forward, even if they don't make the playoffs this year.
It's a psychological lift for next season. Strong win
