What happened?

he go hit in the head clean with a line drive either around the eye or just above. he was bloodied and walked off. no word yet if he is okay. the ball was smoked he didnt even have time to react. the only thing you can hope for is it kind of skipped off his head and still went through midfield and it didnt knock him out so hopefully he is okay.

if by clean you mean he got hit square , he did not. The ball hit him at an angle b/c of the way he was falling off the mound and judging the by the distance and the speed the ball traveled after it hit him you can tell he didn't get hit square.

If he did the ball would have still been in front of him and he would have probably been killed.

Luckily he should be okay. My guess is possible fracture of the nose or face and maybe just some bad bruises he will be back on the mound in Yankee stadium sometime in September.
