Just because he doesn't have the name recognition that some of the others have, that does not change anything. cain was clearly the ace in 2012 when he went 16-5 2.79 era. bumgarner was 4th best in 2011 when cain, lincecum and vogelsong all had era in the 2s, while bumgarner had 3.21 era. 2013 was the only season when bumgarner was considered the "ace" only by default because every other starter had a horrific season (all under .500).

8 pitchers won 13 games in 2013...... these same players have won avg of 10 games in 2014. a drop off of 3 wins per pitcher and 24 less total wins than the season before. sure, they have a start or two left to go but the fact is they have pitched worse than they have in the previous season.
