Alright, done with work... going to mess around with some stuff. First project was to get vegasinsiders pending wagers to auto populate. Only problem is it's way slower than I wanted. Takes about 45 seconds to update the data. Problem is the code I have to extract html extracts all the html and has to do that for 20+ handicappers, so it's pretty intensive work for the server. I'll probably add a button so that we can update the records periodically and not automatically when you go to the page. I also separated out the teams from the matchups so we can associate them with game ids. This stuff is cool, because I don't really have to do anything anymore, it will auto populate the table and update the pending wages on its own. No current pending wagers though...

So, you are trying to create a betting system, based on 20+ handicappers?

what rules are you using to follow them?

are you auto placing the wagers or manually?

It's trying to collaborate all ideas and statistics in to one system all tied together. This is just one idea to get pending wages of these guys tied to games. It is not the core of the system at all.

Guys, the average "Joe Public" can't come up with a legitimate system to bet and more importantly win at.

If you're looking to just pool a group's thoughts into bets, just take a look and follow the public money, which is not a good idea by any means.

Profitable systems are not easy to find and take years to figure out and perfect. They also take hundreds of hours of studying data and back testing.

If you guys were to discuss possible betting ideas and strategies for the NHL, I would likely be able to tell you that your first 15-20 ideas would not work and possibly more. Because I've already done all the performance tracking and research. I'm not being a jerk here, just a realist.

Alright guys, had this going in the Handicapper Think Tank forum. Not sure why the mods moved it to the baseball forum. Got the Pinny results history in increments of 5 minutes. To get the results go to this page...

This will be automatically updated to only include live odds and I have the Pinny cron job going every 5 minutes. If you click the "History" button for the game it will bring you to a table with all the odds I have recorded. It's actually pretty cool.

Let me know if you have any suggestions? We can build graphs, show the data anyway possible, send email notifications, etc.

So Ill post exactly what it is I am looking for and if you can help:

I am looking for a site, excel scraped database, or w/e, that would allow me to do the following:

Chose an MLB team for example Boston Red Sox. It would then display every batter currently on their team showing the following stats:

H/AB, R, HR, RBI, BB, K, .AVG, OBP, SLG, and .OPS. As well as some possible advanced stats (typing quick before I go to work so jus thinking off top of my head).

The difference between this and what is already available online, is I want to be able to chose how many games. For example Last 3, it would only show the stats for their last 3 games, last 7 would be last 7, etc. Ultimately entering a date period would be the best. For example June 10-15 and it would display their stats for that period etc.

Alright, was able to mess with it a little bit tonight. I got all the batting/pitching data for the entire season and a script that will pick it up daily from new games. I'm about to go to bed. Keep in mind this is all just thrown together fairly quickly, so this is not a finished product. We can get more calculations in there, different ways of showing the data, etc. But this is at least a start. So let's get a dialogue going of making this work.

Manual:

1) Select the team you want to view
2) If you do not enter a date it will show their stats for the whole season
3) If you do want to enter a start date... enter it in the format shown YYYY-MM-DD (ex. 2014-06-18)
- If you did that today that would show the batting stats from June 18th through June 20th (aka 3 days).
4) Hit refresh
5) The table can be sorted by clicking on the headers

Nothing too complicated. Messing with the simpleXML which I haven't used was the only tricky part, because I hate reading manuals... but ended up having to do some research on that and once I realized what it's doing it was easy after that.

Took about 2 hours and we have 4 tables set up. 1 has the master schedule and results of all the games played in 2014. Another has all the inning data for each game broken out in to the individual innings.

Then we have a table with all the pitching stats for 2014.

Then we have your batting stats table with 31,000 rows and 39 columns of data. That's 1.2 million cells of data and it just took a night of programming. We can do a lot. Just throw whatever shit you have brewing in your head my way. My goal is to just get all these ideas to eventually connect together.

I'd have to create the UI to show the information. I'll get to that soon.

I just realized the one thing I do not have, which now I'm irritated is matchups. Like the batting/pitching data is just game by game results and does not include individual at bats against a specific pitcher! I'm sure that information is out there, I'll take a look a little later.

I was gonna suggest adding that option but you really dont need to. If you go to MLB.com click a game, then click game preview (if game start is still a bit away, game preview should open by default) then click probables. On that screen click expanded stats and you can see the line ups stats vs that pitcher over last 5 years. Although its very basic stats, just shows AB, .AVG, HR, and RBI.

Alright, so good news. I have a source that can provide not only pitching/batting matchups but every single pitch thrown, what the pitch was, the speed, location, etc. Crazy amount of information. I know we don't need to go that far yet. But as of right now we have all that information in our basket of goodies that we can use later... here is the list of batting stats that I have. I'm not sure what a lot of them mean?

Not exactly what you r talking about but something I've been trying to figure out but have instead been strait baffled by.

I have been getting crushed betting totals this year. I've basically covered pitchers names UP & have been simply going off of watching lines. i've been using what I thought was logical sense in comparing team totals combined with the juice of those team totals to try to figure out if there was an edge for the game total. There hasn't been, in fact just the opposite. Sample size is only 2/5th's of a season but this logic thus far has been failure.

For ex.
Team A: team total 4u-130
Team B: team total 3.5u-120
Game total: 7.5u-110

In this example logic tells you that since both team totals are juiced towards the under & one of them heavily & the the game total equalls the combined team totals then under is the play. This has been strait failure for two plus months & there are usually several instances each night.

Do you or anyone else know of a source that provides historical team totals? I could provide an analysis pretty quickly if I had that information. Otherwise I will have to find a source to get the team totals from here on out and it would be a good month or two months of data collection to have a big enough sample size?

take a look at 1st five moneyline dogs, of -150 and under with high game totals......the obvious value of getting the same ML for the 1st five as full game......the higher the total the better chance a underdog wins the game, as the chances of a one run game diminish, I am applying this mindset to 1st fives as well www.armadillosports.com

For instance I searched Arizona Diamondbacks from June 20-June 24. It is showing Aaron Hill as having 20 RBI in this span, when he only has 4. other players are incorrect as well.

Possible issue with source?

I'll clean that up. Definitely programming error on my part. Should be good to go now.

I'll work on the avg vs righty/leftie a little later today. I'll have to create a new table with the pitching matchups. Something I really want to do, but will take an hour or so when I get there.

Just a general question... for anyone to answer.

When you are trying to measure spreads what is an appropriate algorithm to pick the right spread? For instance, a team goes from -160 to -145, up to -150. Do you take the averages, do you take the final line, first line? For each of these games I have like 100 lines and they differ and writing a query to perform requests like yours can be very different depending on what line I use from what time?

Thanks man. Messed around with the pitching. I'll throw some more stats up there and adjust the formula for Innings Pitch to show ".2" instead of ".67". Just little things like that. But should be good. Checked some of the season long stats and they all showed up matching the stats I saw on ESPN. So it should be accurate.
