    New Ballparks in NYC
Would appreciate a little help from locals or anyone with different ideas on the layouts of the two new parks in New York City. When I was there last May and had the chance to walk around the new constructions sites, it appeared to me that 'new' Yankee Stadium was going to be built on the same line with home plate to center in a West to East line. And the new Shea might be cocked a little more towards a SW to NE line.

Anyone look at these two new layouts differently?

They did everything they could to replicate the old Stadium in the Bronx, right down to the sun field (LF) and the old fashioned scoreboards on the outfield walls. Not sure about the Mets.

apparently the new mets stadium will be very pitcher friendly as well.

Have you been to it yet Dexter? When I was there last May, it was tough to tell which direction it was going to face. Seemed like the right field foul line would run out towards the train, does that sound right?

I will be avoiding betting totals in the new parks, at least in the beginning of the season. Best thing to do is watch to see what happens.

There are a few issues with Citi Field - the wind direction may be a factor, but probably not the biggest factor. Although the published dimensions are similar to Shea, many of the in-between points appear to be slightly deeper. More importantly, the fence will be higher! That's a pretty big deal, and is likely to drastically reduce home runs. There's also a funky overhand that could conceivably reduce home runs further, but will almost certainly increase triples (and maybe doubles). On balance, expect lower scoring. Mets sluggers should be hurt, and pitchers helped. Reyes is the only star hitter that might be helped as much as he's hurt by the new park.

I think the guy who did the measurements and wrote about it may be Greg Rybarczyk (not sure of spelling). If you need an actual link, PM me and I can definitely find it.

Thanks for the info, really looking more for the line from home to center, what direction that will be in. When I was at Shea last May, I sat in on the little video presentation of the new park that they had up on the mezzanine level and it gave me the impression the line would be close to the same in the new park.

Not sure what you mean by this 'funky overhand' thing though.

Yankee stadium is situated the same as old yankee stadium. I have not been to see it since last September. In other news, the Yankees (in true Yankees form) are giving all the partial plan liscensee's like myself the royal screw job, leaving us in the dark about seat assignments (or no offers). I wish I could say they will not see another dime of my money...

One thing you have to realize about Citifield compared to Shea is, with Shea, the outfield was wide open pretty much so the wind could blow in. Not that way with Citi field. Both stadiums are directed the same way as the old ones.

By the way, the new Yankee stadium is not as nice from the outside as the old one. It's a shame they're tearing it down.

Yeah I noticed that as well last May, horseshoe. Except for those bits down the lines in Shea, the outfield was open. One thing about closed stadiums, however, is while the 'Coliseum style' enclosed parks might block wind, they still have thermal effects from heat being trapped inside and rising. Take the Ballpark in Arlington, for example.

That's what I'm saying in regard to the outfield at Shea being slightly open. There's no wind coming in anymore to help the pitchers. It wasn't like Wrigley where the wind blowing out makes a difference. Height wise, Shea was a lot taller than Wrigley so the wind blowing out wasn't a factor. Wind was only a factor blowing in.

I think there's going to be a ton of runs scored compared to the old stadium. Shea was a pitcher's park. I don't think Citi is just because it's enclosed.

That was supposed to say "overhang", not "overhand".

I think the higher walls will more than offset the impact of the wind.

There's a good shot I'm going to the St. Johns game at Citi field on Sunday. (Weather permitting)

Horseshoe & AAO, sounds great, would love to hear about your first visits. Poster Jesse Black also shot me a link with some nice photos of the new Yankee Stadium, and all I can say is WOW! That one photo of the concourse is amazing, reminds me a little of the interior of Grand Central Station.

Right field is kind of funky because of the bullpen. Similar to I guess either Colorado or Arizona. One of them has that screwy layout.

They should paint the stairwells Mets orange in the dark gray bleacher areas.

My friend and I were wondering why it was so drab in certain areas and he was guessing it was to make the billboards stand out.
