#38I never bet against my alma mater, the Oregon State Beavers, but I'm a self-professed social gambler. I mean, I gamble everyday, but I don't approach it with the expectation of consistently extracting money from these markets. I do it because I live in a small village with little entertainment and I have to occupy my off-hours somehow. It gives me something to talk about with my friends and legitimizes my presence on SBR. I don't take the term social gambler to be an insult, I think it denotes a realist who approaches gambling from a position of strength founded on outside income.

i dont bet canadiens because they are my fav team. i bet em because they are better than oddsmakers think they are and i found them underpriced.. maybe not lately.. but if you search my first month here last year, i never bet habs.. i always said to take other team and habs suck and i was never wrong last year. i even said they would not make it past 2nd round and they lost 2nd round.. i don't bet wtih my heart, bill.. i bet wtih my brains, unlike sally who loves his oak a's and refused to bet against em.Comment -

#41Ah, ok Nicky. So like JJ said, it is almost impossible, meaning it is possible to have a favorite team and still be a 'real gambler,' which then means sally can be an A's fan and a real gambler. Glad we got that cleared up.Comment -

#42billy, stop being a wiseass. don't make me come there.. billy, sally said he never bets against his a's.. this is not right. a good gambler will bet against his fav team all the time if there is value on other side.Comment -

#43Sally also noted that he didn't bet MLB action. Don't mean to be a wise ass, Nicky, just trying to keep a pretty good thread from turning into a schoolyard pissing match.Comment -

#48like in every sport-
no allegiances to any team
i love and hate all teams equally
it changes day to day and sometines even in the same game if i'm doing live betting
it all depends on who's cashing that day and who's losing
gamblers shouldnt have favorite teamsComment -

#50I really don't understand the statement that gamblers shouldn't have favorite teams. I bet against my favorite teams often enough. The baseball season is 162 games long.
As a Yankees fan do I truly beleive they will go 162-0? Of course not. Even the best teams in baseball are going to lose approximately over 40% of the time.
Then again, the Yankees should win over 100 games this year anywayComment -

#59It's always about the cash. Heck I'm a die hard Yankees fan but if they're playing the A's and I see value on the A's, I'm taking the A's.Comment -

#69Jesus H Christ!! How can I write the I like the Pittsburgh Pirates after a post like that? The Braves miss the playoffs for the first or second time in a hundred years, and you act as if you have got it bad. Damn. Try 17 consecutive losing seasons with a good shot at 18 next year, and then sing the blues man.Comment -
