Now the Royals, after losing five in a row until yesterday, have the monkey off their back and get a chance to take this series against the light-hitting Padres. Shields takes the mound after getting destroyed by Detroit at home a few days ago. That will not happen today. He excels in day games and road games (10-3, 2.07 ERA in 2013) and today he is in a revenge spot for that bad outing. I feel bad for the Padres having to face this guy, they are only hitting .205 vs righties, and over the last 10 days it's a pathetic .149. Shields has 44 K's in 46 innings and the Royals are 14-3 in his last 17 road starts. He will roll in this one to the tune of 10+ strike-outs, the Royals will score 3-4 runs, win the series, and I will see you all tomorrow in Seattle against the Mariners.

If I knew that Iwakuma was perfectly healthy tonight, I would take Seattle because the Royals always struggle in Seattle. But this is Iwakuma's second start back from injury and I'm not ready to back a pitcher who has a tendon injury on his throwing hand. He gave up 4 earned runs to the shitty Astros a few days ago. Meanwhile, Royals starter Duffy has 13 strikeouts in only 12 innings of work, and has given up only 2 earned runs. Seattle has struggled against lefties and they played a double-header yesterday. I think the Royals will have a bit more energy tonight and will pull this out, especially with Hosmer batting .453 in his last 7 games. Uh-oh, if he stays hot, game over. Royals are 8-1 in Duffy's last 9 starts.
