Honestly though, with the news of his rotator cuff now too, this could absolutely not come at a better time. Sure, they don't have him for the playoffs, but it's better than playing form behind when he gets shelled...he's got the whole offseason to rehab, and he'll be back for half the season next year, when the Mets will need him most. Anyhow, they couldn't possibly have expected him to be their ace throughout the life of his contract, that's just foolish. Lastly, Pedro is not a distraction for this year's playoffs, and isn't that what matters at the moment?
On a side note, if the Mets decide not to pay for Zito or he doesn't want to come, I'm all but convinced Gil Meche is the Metropolitans #4 starter next year. For now however, LET'S GO METS! It should be a fun, fun October.
