Porcello is definitely pitching above his head, but he's also been a perennial underachiever, so the truth lies somewhere in the middle. I'm sure a regression is coming, and I agree that it's insane he's favored like that. He was actually a higher-rated prospect than Verlander coming up and he's still only 25. Typical sinkerball pitcher who took a while to get things figured out. -180/-190 is crazy, though.

Yeah, the price on Texas looks like an auto play for at least a small amount.

what do you expect his #'s should be?
by seasons end he'll likely have an ERA of 3.20/3.30 and a WHIP around 1.10
he's a 4 pitch pitcher, on a great team and finally has a good defense behind him (GB pitcher)

not sure why people keep thinking this huge correction is coming. he would be a 2/3 on most other teams.
hes a 5 on detroit b/c they have the best staff in baseball.

He's been in the league 6 years with an era over 4.40. Add in the fact that he doesn't miss bats. The real rick porcello will come back to earth sooner than later.

The infield D is as good as it's been behind him in Detroit this season, though. He's definitely benefited from that.

they are a sub 500 team, poor bullpen, and a lot of departures that arent being offset by new faces...

plus they still have washington managing them.

Texas isn't good. Agree. But they also aren't +165 against Porcello bad.

he was a top pitching prospect and not the 4.40 era type guy you are thinking of.
go look at his BABIP for prior years (when they had a horrible defense)...getting kinsler and moving cabrera off 3B is HUGE for him..

porcello is the classic scenario of a young prospect learning on the job. you do realize hes still just 26?
he was a full time major league pitcher at 21 after spending 1 year in A ball..
not all prospects do what a strasburg/kershaw did..

Buchanan is 5-1 with a 3.98 era in AAA starts. He is filling in for Cliff Lee and today's start is right on point for Buchanan's rotation too.
