EP36's Spring Training

Not exactly sure what my betting style is going to be when the regular season begins, but for Spring Training I am going to see what I can do.

I'm not an advocate of heavy betting during Spring Training, but I do think there are some situational bets to be made. The key to me is not over doing it and definitely not being a fool who likes to action bet or bet big. I want to find an edge, not action. Fade or follow. Nothing is promised. March 3rd
Rays -125

Hernandez already got beat up a little in his first go this Spring, yielding a couple runs in 2.0 IP. Hernandez was with TB last season, so perhaps the team will have a little edge in familiarity. Moore is making his Spring debut and reportedly went back to an off-season regimen that he followed prior to last year to improve his strength and conditioning. Stories say he believes he is better prepped than he was last year. Phils offense has struggled in the Spring and not many regs in this squad, while the Rays have a good part of the meat of their order in there. #edgenotaction

March 4th
Twins +100

No great insight here as both Hughes for MIN and Koelher for MIA are making their Spring debuts, so definitely no real pitching edge. I do see that Deduno will go after Hughes, did not see much about Miami's intentions today. Both lineups are pretty pedestrian. Stanton being the big bat of course. Minnesota has been tearing it up this Spring so far though with a lot of unknowns, so willing to take a swing with 'em today.

Marlins -120

Sox are starting a very modest lineup at-best today with all their regs looking to get most of the day off. Fish aren't power packed, but are starting a good portion of what they are piecing together as their lineup. I think the pitching edge to start goes to Miami as well with Eovaldi. Webster has struggled already this Spring. Salty against his old team should give this a little intrigue, even in the Spring as he is reportedly very bitter about the break-up. Miami needs to capitalize early when Webster normally has his issues.

Brewers -135

Both offenses have been clicking well, so pitching could be the area that tells a lot today. Lohse goes for MIL & Lyles for COL. I'll take Lohse every time. The other pitchers the Brewers have in-line today: Blazek, Smith & Wang have been fairly good in limited action this Spring. Not sure who is on for Colorado after Lyles, but I'll take my chances that MIL can get off to a good start.

Pirates -125

Wandy Rodriguez rolls out for PIT and Vance Worley for MIN. The Pirates have a nice rotation of pitchers set to follow today with the Spring debut of Grilli along with Gomes, future stud Taillon and J.Hughes. The Bucs have been finding ways to win this Spring with just one loss, while the Twins have scuffled a little lately. PIT is rolling out pretty much the every day lineup & MIN is from what I know rolling out a mostly normal lineup as well.

Well this will be a hurtful one Pirates. Blew the 5-0 lead in the 7th. Kept it at 5-5. Two outs in the 8th with non one on and they manage to give up the go-ahead run still going into the bottom of the 9th. Another sweet Bullpen meltdown!

Orioles +100

Going with the O's on the road against the Pirates. Tillman could go as many as four innings today, so I give the pitching edge to BAL to start. Journeyman Jay Jackson gets the start for PIT. He pitched well in his previous outing, but he's been a AA/AAA guy in his career. The Orioles peppered PIT for nine runs on Sunday albeit with a few more starters in the lineup. Still, this team as a whole has racked up runs against everyone this Spring. McFarland & Webb also scheduled to pitch for BAL. mcFarland has been hit hard, while Webb has been solid. Not sure who follows Jackson for the Pirates, but I'll take a veteran starter and a hot offense.
