If he had a better offensive team behind him, Cleveland ace CC Sabathia might well be a candidate for the American League Cy Young Award.

As it is, Sabathia has one of the best ERAs and WHIPs in the league, but a mediocre record due to the anemic run scoring the Tribe has displayed this season. The Twins are making the race in the AL Central very interesting and while most people probably thought next year might be their year, the Twins are having none of that, showing the league a "why not this season" attitude lately as they now are in 2nd place in the AL Central race, and first in the wild card race.

The only real bad news lately has been the saga of young stud Francisco Liriano, who came off the DL to pitch again, only to stop after 3 innings when he experienced more pain in his elbow. Although the MRI came back negative, Liriano is done for the season and (if the Twins are fortunate enough to keep winning) the postseason as well. Since the beginning of August, Sabathia's control on the mound has been exceptional. He has only given up 10 walks in his 8 starts since August 1, and his K-to-BB ratio during that time is an amazing 5.8 to 1. The Twins are 3-7 in their last 10 meetings in Cleveland.
