Probably not smart to bet these games, but I am going to pound the Phillies ML since they will have two starters pitch and the Pirates will only pitch relievers.

Know what you mean, B1ger, it's like that first time you open the sports page or pulle up a scoreboard and have boxscores to look at after a long cold winter.

Outforseason, I'm in agreement with you about not betting preseason games. The regular season games are hard enough for me to cap and feel good about betting. But I'm not sure I agree with you with the reasoning for picking Philly based on what you said. The starting arms at this stage are most likely looking at their outings from the standpoint of: A) Number of pitches to throw, and; B) How many of each of the pitches in their arsenal do they want to work on. Relievers might take each at bat from the standpoint of situations they expect to encounter during the season, and not be working on specific pitches, at least not as much, as starters.

Now a guy like Samardzija with the Cubs, young kid whose best chance of making the club is in a starting role, I'm expecting him to be pumped up and really looking to wow Piniella and Rothschild with his outing.

Cubs are my preview subject tomorrow by the way.

people who do their homework and read the local papers can find out who is pitching and for how long...many times you can get a serious edge. Problem is, you have no idea who the hell is playing behind the pitcher in the field.

Nice to see baseball back after a long off season

I always find it interesting how books will put out lines for MLB Spring Training games but they don't list the starting pitchers. Of course, baseball lines are heavily geared towards who the starting pitchers are for each team. Or do they feel that it is insignificant because the starter will probably only be in there for 2 or 3 innings?

Shortstop, I think it's because of the rules regarding betting 'action' or 'listed pitchers' for regular season games. Obviously with no pitchers listed on their toteboards, all wagers are action in the preseason. Too much of a chance of a pitcher being scratched in exhibition games, completely different mindset for managers and trainers at this stage of the season.

it is pretty insignificant, but less so as you get towards that last few weeks of spring training

shorty who did you bet today?
