Davis, Brewers To Win
By: Marc Lawrence
Doug Davis and Zach Duke take to the mound tonight in Pittsburgh in a battle of southpaws that favors the Brewers over the Pirates.
The Brewers send Doug Davis to the hill against the Bucs in Pittsburgh knowing he has cashed in 10 of his 15 career team starts against Pittsburgh.
Davis, 10-9 on the '06 season with a 4.92 ERA, is coming off a complete game shutout over the Dodgers in his last start and is 2-1 with a no-decision this year against the Pirates. Davis also owns an ERA of a full run lower during the 2nd half of the season over the past four years.
His mound counterpart for Pittsburgh, Zach Duke (8-13, 4.78), has pitched well in his last two starts (vs. the Cubs and Cards), but saw his Pirates fall in each game. The left-hander hasn't pocketed a win since Aug 11.
Look for more of the same here this evening as Davis continues his winning ways over the Pirates and Duke continues his winless streak.
