No question that our brain and our ability to reason is what distinguishes us from animals (or "other animals"). When it comes to doing anything except thinking - there exists an animal who can do it far better than any human being. People run into big trouble when they don't recognize and use reason to control the basic drives and impulses rooted in our evolutionary nature to survive and reproduce as individuals and as a species - drives and impulses which are in modern society no longer necessary for our survival. Know Thyself. If you don't know/understand who and what you are - a casino or a sportsbook is a really bad place to find out.

these basic instincts are what i writing about. Human society has become inextricably complex..
and removed from the natural state, but most daily activities correspond and push primal buttons in our psyche (most notably the Limbic System of the brain).

While there is no need to go out and bloody oneself hunting, one still needs to generate revenue in order to survive. The Gambling experience is psychologically tied to the basic instincts surrounding 'survival'.

While the body may be seated, and just pressing buttons on a mouse–*
*.. a gambler's blood pressure can double in an instant
just glancing at a scoreboard on a computer screen.

*Compound that 'Will to Win' instict with the 'gambling experience' for the fan..
and you have a super-charged emotional experience (good or bad)
      that is very, very*'addictive' .

Even something as benign as wanting to be seen as a nice guy, wanting to be liked and be accepted as part of the group has its evolutionary origins. In prehistoric times, if an individual was ostracized from the group and had to set out on his own - he was doomed. The fact is that almost every facet of human instinct and behavior is somehow related to genetic drivers. Most people don't even recognize the source of their emotions, impulses and behaviors - let alone any ability to control them.

I work and go to school and gamble. I do a lot of research and I was able to take a $500 bank roll from january to $11k by now. I do not bet more than 5% on any one game so it works for me. I do not need to see the games. so it doesn't interfere with what I have to do. But honestly, it does take time to run numbers and check resources. I am currently single so when I get a gf in the future I know I will need to stop to give her attention. When I have kids, that will be even less time so I think i'll just gamble when a game catches my eye. There are days I don't feel too good even if I win cause I feel I can do more productive things. Then there's other days when I feel good cause I know I do well and it doesn't control my life. time will tell. I do have an exit strategy though

              THANK YOU, Big Pauly!

i feel it really is a huge topic that merits scrutiny..
if we are exposing ourselves to something on a regular basis,
that occupies so much thought and energy..

then we should all be deeply informed, as it can only save us time, energy and $$$.

ps> i hope you are killing the books here in the WS,, been a really strange one so far..
wild endings.. people can't afford to turn the channel in the 9th

Don't remember the exact quote - but Nietzsche said something to the effect that - "In war - men destroy one another. In peace - themselves." It's a concept that should resonate with gamblers.
