Some huge Series in the NLWC race!!!
It's Labor Day, they're only around 25 games left.
Time is running out on some teams' playoff hopes.
They're 4 huge series that start on Monday and that will definitely leave a couple of teams out of the crazy NLWC race and looking at 2007...

The first series is the Rockies @ Padres.
Colorado is virtually out of it.
Their last chance would be to sweep the Padres out at Petco. This would be their only shot.
The Rockies will probably be done by Wednesday.

The second series is the D-backs @ Marlins.
Same situation for arizona, they are 6 games out.
They would need to sweep the red-hot Marlins in a series where they will not only be on the road, but also heavily overpithced... Arizona will probably be done by Wednesday as well.

Next series, the Braves @ Mets.
Atlanta is 6 games out. They head to Shea after splitting 4 games in Philly.
Although this series means virtually nothing for NY I's sure they would love to slam the door in the Braves' faces.
Atlanta will head to NY without Chipper Jones and Marcus Giles and they need to take at least 2-3 to keep some faith over the weekend. Doesnt look good at all for the Braves.
Carlos Beltran is day to day and could play today although I think the smart thing would be to keep him out of the lineup.

The best series in the NL, the one with more WC implications is the one of the Astros @ Phillies.
If Houston could win at least 2 games on the road they will be right in the middle of the WC hunt...
We know they have the pitching to keep them in all three games, the question is how the offense will respond in crunch time. I like Houston to win this series and make it interesting down the stretch... Clemens, Pettite, Rodriguez, they need to get it done...

looks like the trend reversed on those mets/braves games.

the braves just have dominated the mets over the last few years, and now it's the mets that are doing a number on the braves.

Ok, that pretty much does it for Arizona, they had a good chance today but they blew it...
