I really didn't see this coming, at least at this time of the season. Wasn't too scared about losing Roy O after next year because he's got a pretty good relationship with McLane, but the timing of this and the fact they kept it away from the press surprised me. I'm also not sold on just how serious the trade talks were earlier this season despite what Jayson Stark and others insist.
Regardless of Houston's inclusion in the postseason this year, it could very well be a nice winter now that Oswalt's locked up. I'm guessing that Ensberg will NOT be coming back, and there could be 1-2 more players gone after they opened this year as 1st-stringers. It's not going to be a huge free agent class this time, so I see more trades this December on into the start of Spring Training throughout baseball.
Deciding what to do about Lidge is going to be paramount on Purpura's list of things to do.
