Oakland Athletics (-137)
Man oh man is it getting ugly in Beantown!!! The BoSox were just 2-hit by Cha Seung Baek of Seattle and ended up getting swept by the Mariners to lose their season series.
It's just flat been flat out ugly for the Red Sox of late, and the injuries just keep continuing to mount. John Lester was supposed to go today, but his back continues to give him problems and he flew back to the east coast to get it checked out. Instead, Kason Gabbard will be making his second career start in the big leagues this evening. Not good on any night in this league, and especially vs. an Oakland team that's been white hot for months now.
Oakland has won 10 of its L/11 home games, and just got done pretty much knocking Texas out of the playoff chase by taking two of three this past weekend. Esteban Loaiza gets the call tonight against the Red Sox rag tag line-up, and he's been fantastic of late. In fact, he's 2-0 with a 0.38 ERA and 0.59 WHIP his L/3 starts, and the A's have won 7 of his L/10 overall starts and 4 of his L/5 home starts. Needless to say, he's refound his magic and the Red Sox will be hard pressed to get a hold of him after their depleted line-up struggled with a rookie yesterday afternoon.
Finally, Loaiza's team record is 7-2 in the nine games he's started against Boston in his career, and I'm looking for the A's to continue sizzling in front of the home crowd and take the opener with relative ease.
