Met Continue Cards' Misery

New York's the site and the Mets have their sights set on a sweep of the Cardinals who are on a serious slide.

I'm riding the Mets for the third straight day with Dave Williams taking on Jason Marquis. Since the interleague meltdown that saw the Cardinals have their swagger ripped right from their clutches, we have made a very nice profit picking our spots against them, including a pair of Big Play winners the last two nights.

The Redbirds are in one of their worst spots tonight. They're just 7-12 in road night games against southpaws. It doesn't help their cause that Marquis is on the hill. St. Louis has lost four of his last five starts. In those games, Marquis has allowed 16 ER and 42 BR in just 23-1/3 IP for a 6.18 ERA and 1.80 WHIP. Twice in his last 6 outings, Marquis has lasted 3-2/3 innings or less! And, St. Louis' opponents are scoring 6.04 RPG in Marquis' 26 starts this season.

Mets' righty Williams hasn't seen a lot of action this season, but he's been strong in his chances at Shea. In four home starts, Williams owns a 2.70 ERA! The Mets have won six of his last seven starts overall and make it seven of eight on Thursday.

The Mutts look like they did during their ONLY winning streak of note during the season, but still, they are money to only win 2 of 3 in a series. They won their 2 and I'm sure StL wants to save SOME face.

It's a tough play. At -120, though - that's a heluva bargain taking the BEST team in the NL at HOME....
The pitching matchup isn't good for the Mutts, tho, and Delgado has been horribly inconsistant all year... And he's had 2 big games in a row, he's due for a big 0for.

Mets Will Broom Cards

Look for the Mets to make another major statement tonight when they go for a sweep over the NL Central leading Cardinals.

St. Louis had lost Jason Marquis' previous four starts until last weekend when they picked up their first win in Chicago this season. Surprisingly, Marquis has had success vs. the Mets as a Cardinal. He already beat them this season in May, and earned victories in four of his five overall starts.

However, this is a much different Mets team from the past, and he won't go unscathed this evening. It's been painfully obvious through the first two games of this series that the Mets are just too much for the Cardinals to handle right now. St. Louis is a wounded vessel barely staying afloat, while the Mets are a state of the art Destroyer looking to take down anything that gets in its way.

They made quick work of Mark Mulder in his debut from the DL, and should be able to chew up and spit out the garbage that Mr. Marquis will offer them this evening. Dave Williams rarely strikes fear into any of the opponents he faces, but he just might this evening as the Redbirds haven't fared well against lefties this season. They're a very poor 17-27 against southpaws this season, and average half a run lower than their season average.

The Mets have won two of Williams' four starts at Shea this year, and he's been able to limit his opponents as evidenced by his minuscule home ERA of 2.70. Look for him to get his home mark on the plus side of the ledger after tonight.

Following on **'s comment. I think the Mets havent swept opposition that much this year, not even at home, pitching matchup is not good and this is a big game for St Louis imo.

Another thing...its hard to get major league action when you are in the minors. But hey his hits given up were was actualy slightly below one an inning for those Norfolk Tides!!!

Not only is this the left-handed Dave Williams but its also the Dave Williams who has only made one start for the Mets this year.

OK lets examine this a little closer cause frankly all theese free picks are cluttering up the board and if they do that then they should atleast have soemthing to offer....which if this write up in indicative of the rest of there work then the answer is they dont.

I would think that a guy shopping picks would atleast be up on the fact that williams was traded for and then sent to AAA. It looks like theese guy just punched in Williams stats and saw his home ERA. Only problem is that the home ERA and number of starts(except for 1) is all with the reds. Tell me what an era at the great american ball park has to do with pitching at shea?

This looks like the quality of work a seventh grader would put into his science fair project when he starts the night before it is due.

Props to the second write up guy who atleast knew williams was a lefty.
